For Heidi

Heidi, who is now 19, chose the username 'welshgirl15' because she is Welsh and she was 15 when she created the journal. We actually already knew each other before [livejournal.com profile] landofart, we know eachother through the Doctor Who fandom, or more specifically through Doctor Who icontests.

The thing she likes most about the Whoniverse is that there's so many different aspects of it. It can be funny and silly and then serious and emotional within the same episode. She's loved almost all of the stories, characters and aliens so far even though she's "only" seen all of NewWho and the odd Old episode, but she hopes to see more of the old episodes. (I've also got a sneaky suspicion she's read some Doctor Who novels, so quite a big fan this one.)

"Never mind six impossible things before breakfast, he'll get through sixty and still have time to make the toast"
- About the Doctor, in the Doctor Who Novel Apollo 23

Just looking at her journal you quickly notice she's a part of quite a lot of land communities. She says, 'I love the variety of challenges you get in them, whether it is all the graphical challenges like we have at landofart or the other types of challenges at the other land comms. I've tried things I never would have without them such has writing short fan fiction. I love the Team Spirit you get at the comms as well and I've made most of my LJ friends through these comms.'

Heidi being Welsh I was curious to find out if she speaks any other languages apart from English, maybe Welsh? But no, although she did get taught Welsh from when she started school at 4 to finishing her GCSEs at 16. She says, 'I should probably be better at it than I am after all those years! Languages have never been my thing.' But she lives in Wales? Ah yes, but by her own account, 'It's not really used much anymore, and pretty much everyone who lives here is fluent in English, with only a small proportion fluent Welsh speakers. I really wish I could speak Welsh fluently. I'm slightly ashamed to be so proud of being Welsh and yet not speak the language.'

"Oh biting’s excellent! It’s like kissing, only there’s a winner!"
- Idris, Doctor Who, The Doctor's Wife

Well, apparently Welsh is not an easy language to learn and she does know minimal French and basic British Sign Language. 'British Sign Language?', I hear you think. I asked her about it and she replied, 'I did a qualification called the Welsh Baccalaureate. It's basically a mixture of all diferent skills and one thing I had to do was spend 20 hours learning a language. Add that I said I'm terrible with languages so I thought sign language would be a good alternative.' Smart girl.

For the following to make sense, I'm going to put the original question here. 'Which do you prefer, heat or cold, sun or snow?' Generally she'd prefer it to be hot. 'I'm much more comfortable in my summer clothes!' But Heidi adds that she is that person who always complains when it's too hot. 'I couldn't handle going to a really hot country in the summer when I manage to burn here!'
For all the people who have a far of snow and getting snowed in, look away now. 'I do like the snow, as long as I don't need to go anywhere. I live in a really rural area, so we get really badly effected by the snow. This year my car was stuck at the top of our drive for over a week. Very annoying!'

"He's like fire and ice and rage. He's like the night, and the storm in the heart of the sun. He's ancient and forever. He burns at the centre of time and he can see the turn of the universe. And... he's wonderful."
- Tim Latimer, Doctor Who, The Family of Blood

Now, I had to ask what her favourite piece of clothing is. (No, not like that, get your filty mind out of the gutter.) She loves Converse. (She's a Doctor Who fan, what did you expect?) 'They are just so comfy, and I love that you can get them in so many different colours. I have a red and a black pair. '
She also likes her grey skinny jeans. 'They are from Primark, and are so comfy it's ridiculous. They're also nice and long, because of my height I usually have to hunt for jeans in a long length. Plus they only cost me £8, always a bonus!' Smart and thrifty.

Not only does like Heidi Doctor Who, she also likes Harry Potter. 'I remember getting the first few books for Christmas, when my mum warned me that they were quite boyish books, and not long after they announced they were making them into films. I properly grew up with Harry, I was 9 when the first film came out. I love both the books and the films, although I did used to think I'd make a much better Hermione!'

"It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live"
- Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

Besides Doctor Who we actually have one other thing in common, we both love soft serve ice cream. 'I love Mr Whippys! And I only ever have it in vanilla.' Also, she'd like to have dinner with Anne Boleyn. 'I've always had a strange fascination with the Tudor period, and she's always seemed the most interesting part of that. I'm not even sure what I would ask her!' But I've got a hunch she's got more than enough questions for Steven Moffat, current head writer of Doctor Who, which is her choice for having dinner with a famous person who is still alive. 'I'd just love to know what goes on inside his head!'

Usually when you ask someone what their favourite holiday destination is, you get the most exotic holiday spots, hot or cold, as an answer, but Heidi surprises me. 'There's a small town called Woolacombe in North Devon. It's a gorgeous little place. The beach there is stunning, and never too busy. Of course the downside of holidaying in the UK is the unpredictable weather!'

"The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant. And we definitely added to his pile of good things."
- The Eleventh Doctor, Doctor Who, Vincent and the Doctor

Dear Heidi, I was going to make you lots of icons, but because I left this far too late and I thought the deadline was tomorrow and I also take way too much time making icons, add to that a certain community distracting me with things like an Icon-A-Thon, in general I do way too much...
To get to the point, I only managed to make you 14 icons. I hope you like them anyway. :)

XD Thank you!! I love how you've written it up, you'd make a brilliant journalist. And I love the icons. I was really looking forward to seeing what you'd make, and you definatly haven't dissapointed. Saving a bunch of them.

Thanks again for this, you asked great questions!

I shouldn't really be awake right now...

Oops, sorry about that! I've actually never had a nickname. I always wanted one as a kid but never had one :(

Reading this has made me realise how much I change my mind. Out of the 5 characters I choose here, I'm only doing 2 of them for my Top 5 Characters challenge!

this was really fun to read.

'They are from Primark...'
I didn't know there was Primark in Wales. but then again, I've only ever been there once and that was to visit family some time in the 90s.

Vincent and the Doctor
this episode makes me cry every time.

I think you're so lucky to live where they film Doctor Who. there's every chance that they might use a building in the area you live in.

I love the shade of green on the first icon, and the curve of the 10th icon.
also, I think the new Weeping Angels aren't half as scary as the original from 'Blink'.

Wow, definitely the most original interview I've seen so far. Great stuff! Do you do anything involving journalism in daily life?

I like your icon style. They're definitely some of the more interesting dark icons out there. It's so easy to mess that type of style up, and make it totally impossible for anyone but yourself to figure out what's on them; or to just use black&white and make them boring. I'll have to use yours as an example while and go experimenting myself! ^^

Also: that icon #2? So jealous. I would never come up with anything like that. *sucks at multi-level, blending, etc*
